Baby cheetahs weigh just 300 grams when they are born. Their coat already has the typical black spots, and their face the unmistakable tear drop stripes. Baby cheetahs are very helpless and only open their eyes after two weeks. When their mother is out hunting, they are completely defenceless against hungry lions and hyenas. The best possible camouflage is the only chance they have.

Clydesdales are among the biggest horses in the world. When they are fully grown, their height is 160–180 cm. The only horses that are bigger are Shire Horses and Brabanters. Clydesdales grow more slowly than other horse breeds. The foals aren’t fully grown until the age of seven or eight, instead of four or five. They then weigh over 1,000 kg – as much as a small car. They are so strong that they can pull objects that are much heavier than themselves. This also means they need a lot of food and water. Every day, they need 20–25 kg of grain with minerals and vitamins, and around 50–60 kg hay. Needless to say, this makes them thirsty – very thirsty, in fact. Clydesdales drink over 100 litres of water per day.
Even though dachshunds are very small, they have great self-confidence. Nevertheless, they are very friendly and very patient dogs. In the past, these brave animals were used as hunting dogs. Their long, slender bodies were ideal for following badgers through their narrowly constructed tunnels.
Dromedaries live in the deserts of Africa and Asia. They eat mostly leaves, dry grass and thorny plants. The hump of the mammal isn’t used to store water; it stores fat. If they can’t find any food in the desert they can live off it for weeks. The dromedary from Schleich® Wild Life has eaten well recently and has an upright, well-filled hump.
The English Cocker Spaniel from the Schleich Farm World pants happily and wags its tail enthusiastically. With its happy facial expression, the English Cocker Spaniel radiates a joy of life and shows the cheerful character of this dog breed.
